First Look: Marvel-Inspired Details on New Disney Destiny

by Daniel McCarthy / August 02, 2024

After some major announcements on the features of the upcoming Disney Destiny, Disney Cruise Line dropped some more details on Thursday. Most notably, Disney unveiled some Marvel-inspired touches that will make Destiny the most superhero-focused ship ever.

The ship, which has always been themed for heroes and villains, will feature some past Marvel-inspired staples from Disney Wish, including the World of Marvel dining venue and Marvel Super Hero Academy. But there’ll be a lot more, too.

The inspiration starts on the stern and will be adorned with Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots. Then, Destiny will feature a statue of T’Challa from Marvel’s “Black Panther” films in its Grand Hall, the ship’s main gathering place, bringing one of Marvel’s most notable heroes to the heart of the ship. Guests can expect Marvel-inspired interactions in the space, which features a stage and 360-degree lighting effects, too.

Destiny will also debut with Sanctum, a lounge inspired by another Marvel character, Doctor Strange, with theming from his New York Sanctum from the films. The venue will offer a menu of cocktails, spirits, and coffees.

Then, there’s the ship’s 2,000 sq. ft. Tower Suite, a signature of all of Disney Cruise Line’s newest launches. This one will be designed with inspiration from Iron Man’s penthouse from the Marvel films. The suite sleeps eight and includes a private, ensuite elevator, and access to an exclusive concierge lounge and private sun deck.

Disney is targeting “late 2025” for Destiny’s debut and plans to launch the ship from Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. At 144,000 gross tons, it will be the same size as sister ships Wish and Treasure.
