Secrets Playa Blanca Was One of 2024’s Biggest Resort Openings

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres made a splash as one of this year’s most anticipated resort openings when it opened on Feb. 1, 2024.

The adults-only resort, part of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection, is a 45-minute drive from Cancun International Airport – and it landed well with repeat Hyatt guests who have come to know and love the 20-plus-year-old Secrets brand.

“Secrets Playa Blanca was a huge hit because they’re fans of other Secrets and they just can’t wait to try the new product,” Shyla Gardner, Hyatt’s vice president of commercial services for Latin America & Caribbean, told TMR. “Secrets is always one of our most popular brands. It also connects so well with couples who are really looking to reconnect, whether that’s a vow renewal or celebrating an anniversary or a honeymoon. We really lean into romance with that brand.”

Secrets Playa Blanca is just north of Cancun’s Hotel Zone and west of Isla Mujeres. The 507-room resort features four large pools, including an infinity pool for Preferred guests, nine restaurants serving a wide array of cuisine, eight bars, and the Secrets Spa.

Room categories include tropical views, ocean views, oceanfront, and swim out options. There are also two presidential suites available on the property and 11 wedding locations with a maximum event capacity of 500 guests.

Kim Goldstein, president and travel consultant of Journeys Inc., just returned from a family vacation to Secrets Playa Blanca after attending a few industry events there during the fall. She told TMR that the gorgeous beaches, pools, decor, and rooms all make the resort a stand-out to sell to adult clients of all kinds. It has also given her a shiny new resort to offer for weddings.

“Venturing into the realm of adults-only resorts after years of family-friendly vacations can present unique challenges, especially when catering to young adults,” Goldstein said. “Yet, at Secrets Playa Blanca, my two sons, both in their twenties, were more than content. This resort caters exceptionally well to college-aged guests and young adults, providing a wealth of activities and entertainment options. There were a lot of families with college-aged kids/young adults there, which according to the Sales Team, is very typical.”

The resort held a well-attended grand opening party in October, hosting attendees of the annual Cancun Travel Mart and other travel and hospitality professionals, and celebrating with food, fireworks, and other festivities.

There’s even more in store for the Secrets brand in 2025, when Secrets Baby Beach Aruba will open in April.
