Are you making these mistakes when linking?

Travel Blog Promotion Blog

Anyone that has been running a blog for a while should know by now that links to your website are a good thing that will help improve the popularity in the eyes of google. However, there are a few basic errors when building links that I still people doing. You may read this and think I am stating the obvious, but I am often amazed to see people making these basic errors when they should know better. Here is what they are and how to avoid them:

  • Use keyword you want to rank for as anchor text for your links, both on your site and with external links. I shake my head in bewilderment when I see people putting the link on words like "click here" or "read more". You should add your links on the words you want to rank for, such as travel blog directory
  • Add meta titles to your links with your keywords in. This means you add title="keyword here" after the href="/" part of your link
  • Putting full stops or spaces at the end of the link. Tests have shown google doesn´t pass as much value to your link for that keyword if you have spaces before you close the tag. Good: Holiday apartments Barcelona Bad: Holiday apartments Barcelona .
  • Linking to variations of http://mysite.com, http://www.mysite.com, http://www.mysite.com/index.php. In the eyes of google, each is a different page, so you are diluting your pagerank for each of them. Choose one variation and stick to it. 301 redirecting from on to the other is fine, but you lose some link value by doing that, so it is better to link consistently to one variation.
