New spin on guest posts

Travel Blog Promotion Blog

Many of you have probably heard of guest posts, whereby you write an article to be published on someone elses blog in exchange for a link back to your blog. You get the SEO value of the link, plus you get some traffic from readers of the other blog. This article is about how to supercharge your guest posts value, and make sure it is accepted more often by the other site. First, lets quickly go over the benefits of guest posts.

How guest posts are better than link exchanges.

  1. Your link will appear in a block of text, instead of a list of hundreds of other links
  2. You have control over how the link looks, and the context of the link
  3. You will likely get some traffic from people reading the post, nobody reads links pages
  4. You obviously control the content of the post
  5. Everybody likes free content for their site, and are more likely to accept than yet another link exchange request

Ok, so we all know this. What is the spin on the site I promised at the start of the post? Here it is: Offer to provide content for COMMERCIAL TRAVEL WEBSITES. That is, approach travel sites selling accommodation, tours, bike rentals, travel insurance, whatever. Why? These people need their blog ranking higher to make money. They are actually businesses, so they are more likely to gain page rank more quickly (increasing the value of your link), as they have more resources to promote their sites. They are more likely to accept your post, as they will be less precious about their blog section than a blogger, they are worried about their product pages. How do I know this? Over the years I have worked for travel companies, built many travel websites, and promoted the hell out of them. And one thing we always needed was FRESH CONTENT.

The correct way to approach travel companies for a guest post

First of all, draw up a list of medium sized companies. The biggies like expedia and tripadvisor are not going to care. Find sites with Page rank 1-4, that have a blog section. Now you need to prepare your attack. Remember, these people are busy, make it extremely easy for them. Send them an email being very clear about what you want. Something like:

I am a travel blogger who owns the site www.mysite.com. I propose to write content for your blog at www.theirsite.com in exchange for a link back to my site. I will also give you a link from my blog. This will benefit us both, as you will get free content to put on your site, to help with the search engines, plus a link back from a related travel site, and I get a link to my website.

I will research and write an article on a subject of your choosing, at no cost to you, and submit it for your approval.

Please let me know what you think,

Regards,
yourname,
www.mysite.com

Have you had success with this technique? Are you looking for travel related content or are you willing to write some? Comments Below.

I do lots of guest posting myself (warning to editor: I'll be writing one for wetravel2 soon!)

I have often tried sending guest posts to sites that you traditionally would not and it can be really effective.
