It’s not hard to think of swimming when it comes to hitting the beach in Mauritius. If you’ve been swimming regularly in a swimming pool back home, how would you expect swimming in salty sea water to be?
Waves
The water in swimming pools is usually calm, whereas at sea, you would expect waves. But the lagoon in Mauritius is very quiet as it is protected from big ocean waves by coral reefs. So you won’t get many waves coming your way. When you do get large waves within the lagoon, this means the sea is getting stormy and it’s not the time to be frolicking in waves. This sort of weather usually happens during cyclones so you are well-advised to keep out of the sea at those times.
So calm water and high salt content means swimming in the lagoon in Mauritius is easier than in your local pool.
The beaches
By now, you must be asking yourself where are the top beaches that attracted you to Mauritius holidays in the first place? Every holidaymaker in Mauritius should not miss visiting the seaside resort of Grand-Bay with its stunning beach and other neighbouring beaches such as Mont-Choisy and Pereybere. Grand-Bay is in the north. On the west coast, you will find the public beach of Flic en Flac and on the east coast, Belle Mare and Palmar beaches, stunning long sandy beaches bordered by filao trees. A little further south is Blue-Bay with its marine park which makes for fantastic snorkelling and scuba diving.
If you live on a continent far away from beaches, then make the most of your time in Mauritius and enjoy not only the sun and the sand but also some fun time in the warm calm waters of the lagoon.
