The 8 Best Travel Accessories and Companions for Travellers

Swiss army knife- invaluableIf you are into fashion, or just looking good at whatever you do, there is a huge range of great looking and extremely functional items that, for the seasoned traveller, have become as essential as travel insurance to many. Take a leaf out of their book. 8 best traveller's accessories.

Easy charger. These great products are just that easy. You don't have to remove batteries to charge or even plug in cables. Place your items directly on the charging plate and they recharge. A must for hassle free adaptors and cables.

Noise reduction headphones. There are a range of great and dynamic noise cancelling and noise reducing headphones on the market. Get the headphones that suit your budget.

Smart-phone. Whether you will only use an iPhone, with all the applications readily available just about any smart-phone will do and you will never look back. So much information at your finger tips all the time. Book and buy cheap flights and cheap travel insurance on the fly, or just find the restaurant that serves a particular meal in your immediate vicinity.

Mac Book Air. The sleekest and coolest laptop that exists. With a solid state hard drive (no moving parts,) it is great for those people on the go. You can go smaller and if you are one of the new users getting used to cloud computing, who even needs any real hard drive space? Use Google docs to save 1G of files and use other free online locations if you don't wish to pay for online space to save whatever you want. Get used to them and you will start using them at home.

Earplugs. Small cheap and very useful. There are some sounds you really don’t want to hear while travelling... the rasping snores of a fellow passenger on a long haul flight; an all- night sex marathon in a hostel with paper-thin walls, roosters at 4 am; Bollywood films at full volume on an overnight bus journey. Take a few pairs of earplugs and save yourself from abuse and corruption.

Swiss Army Knife. Just make sure you pack it in your check-in luggage. Aside from the alcohol related the bottle opener, the possibilities are endless. Not all beer bottles come with twist-off caps – the bottle opener attachment will save the heartache of sitting down to an al- fresco brew at sunset only to be thwarted by the cap. Sawing the top off a coconut to drink the milk inside will always appeal to your inner hunter-gatherer. You will always find a use for a screwdriver or just cleaning your nails.

Neck support cushion. Inflatable devices are great for all travel situations, whether flight or buses. Don't wake up facing the wrong way. One of the often forgotten and yet best essentials ever.

Combination locks. Why bother with keys. Can be used for luggage and using in hostels. Remember the airlines and security checkers have the right to break them and do so. Cheap and easy to get just about anywhere, so always keep a few handy.

Good book. A good book can be soothing especially if you are tired of reading from palm- sized screen on your smart-phone, or even tablet. Nothing beats good old fashioned paper. Look for book swap shops on your travels and share your knowledge.

Looking cool can also look a little stupid, but it is what works that counts. Be safe and have an adventure.

Good list, but when im backpacking, I don't go anywhere without my own sleep sheet and travel towel. This way I always feel clean, no matter how dirty the hostel and or bedding maybe.

They don't take up much space or are they very heavy. You will be very happy you brought them when faced with another night in a dirty hostel.
