How To Make Your Vacation Money Go A Little Further

CurrencyTravelling is brilliant fun and I am sure that it is something we would all love to do more of right? I mean, who doesn’t enjoy being on vacation?

Unfortunately, intrepid travel costs money, which stops you from doing it as often as you might like. But what if you could travel more cheaply and make your money go a bit further? Then you could spend more time doing it…

Take longer vacations

The cost of your average vacation is broadly made up of 3 parts: cost of getting there, cost of accommodation and spending money. The second two generally go up the longer you stay, but the first one doesn’t.

This means that if you stay for two weeks instead of one, you get double the vacation time, but the cost doesn’t double – the longer you spend away the better value the whole thing is.

Reducing the spending money

The third part of our equasion (spending money) can be decreased by being really stingy, but that’s no fun. Alternatively, it can be reduced by avoiding locations which are expensive.

Consider the money you will spend when you book the holiday and suddenly, the slightly more expensive but exotic option might actually work out cheaper when you factor in the cheap food and drink + you’ll have more fun if you don’t have to worry so much about money.

Currency conversion rates

Use a currency converter (like this one) ahead of time to figure out what the exchange rate is and where it’s going. If it is getting worse then you know you should buy your money now – if it is improving then you might save some money if you wait and exchange at the last minute.

Additionally, if it shows signs of improving, you might even opt to take minimal currency with you and just top up throughout your stay, as opposed to getting everything you need now and risk having money left over.

Avoid peak season

Avoiding the high season rush can save you a lot of money, you may feel like your dates are pretty rigid but just a day’s flexibility might save you a small fortune. Keep an eye on what’s going on at your chosen destination too, if you go during one of their holiday periods, prices might be increased too.

this is great info. With the economy they way it is lately it is getting harder and harder to afford a vacation, thanks for the great advice!
