Paris
It’s still regarded as THE city of romance and the possibilities for romantic walks and sightseeing are seemingly endless. Take a stroll around the Montmartre area in the North, famous for the white domed Sacre Coeur church and where artists still work amongst the cafes. Have a look at some of the 35000 pieces of art in the Louvre, probably the most well known art gallery in the world. See where Quasimodo romanced Esmeralda in the towering gothic Notre Dame cathedral. The Eiffel Tower should also not be missed, however, if all of this seems a little hard on the feet, why not try a relaxing boat trip down the Seine, from which you’ll be able to see many of the cities key attractions.
Venice
The city of canals is one of the most beautiful, historic and romantic destinations for a honeymoon. The city stretches across 117 islands along the Adriatic sea in North-East Italy. Famous for its bridges, including the picturesque Rialto bridge and its rich, diverse architecture , there a few cities to rival it for looks. Visit the famous Piazza San Marco, the café lined principle public square of Venice and take in the magnificent Saint Mark's Basilica and nearby Doge’s Palace. Top it all off with a gondola trip and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a romantic honeymoon.
Slovenia
Where? Mountainous Slovenia borders Hungary, Italy, Croatia and Austria, with a population of just over two million people. Historic Ljubljana is the capital, but many couples travel the 55 km to Lake Bled, a picturesque lake at the foot of the Triglav Mountains. In the centre of the lake is Bled Island (the only island in the country) which is home to the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of Mary, where weddings are held regularly. The tradition is for the groom to carry the bride up the 99 steps from the lakeside to the church. Whether you want to take advantage of the hiking or mountain biking, or prefer more sedate activities, it’s a superb, romantic destination for a honeymoon.
Sri Lanka
For a completely different honeymoon experience, Sri Lanka is hard to beat. In fact, if you’ve ever considered getting married abroad, it might be worth giving Sri Lanka some thought. Where else can the bride and groom ride off to start their life together on the back of an elephant? Sri Lankan beaches are second to none and moonlit beach wedding ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular. Many operators offer packages which can include the ceremony, the honeymoon and options such as sung blessings, boat rides and massages.
