The TSA broke its record for number of passengers screened in one day on Nov. 26 – the Sunday after Thanksgiving – with more than 2.9 million people passing through nationwide.

The agency announced the news on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. The all-time high in TSA history is 10% higher than the number of passengers on the Sunday after Thanksgiving in 2022. According to Flightradar24, a real-time air traffic tracker, Sunday was a crowded yet smooth travel day with less than one-half of a percent of flights canceled.

“My sincere appreciation to our @TSA employees who worked diligently during the Thanksgiving weekend,” TSA Administrator David P. Pekoske wrote on X. “Officers screened over 2.9M passengers at airport security checkpoints yesterday – the most ever screened on record. Thank you for always being vigilant & focused on our mission.”

The TSA recommends arriving at the airports early and waiting until after your flight to wrap gifts you may be traveling with during the holidays.
